Found mainly in the Himalayan region at a certain altitude, Rudraksha is the seed of the Eliocarpus ganitrus tree and plays a significant role in a spiritual seeker’s life. Most of these trees however were utilized for making the railway sleepers and thus very few of these remain in India. At present, these are mainly found in Burma, Thailand, Nepal or Indonesia. In India, they are found in some parts of the Western Ghats but Rudraksha of the best quality comes only from a specific altitude in the Himalayas as the soil, atmosphere and all other physical factors have a great influence on it. These seeds comprise of a unique vibration.   

What is Rudraksha?

As mentioned earlier, Rudraksha is a type of seed of a tree which is mainly found in hilly areas. Rudraksha as per the religious beliefs, is said to have originated from the water glands of Lord Shiva's eyes. Rudraksha tree is supposed to be born from the tears of Lord Shankar’s eyes which dropped down while he opened his eyes after a severe austerity.

Rudraksha is a composition of two words i.e. Rudra and Aksha. It is known to be a symbol of Lord Shiva as Rudra is Lord Shiva’s name and Aksha symbolises tear. This is the reason behind the fact that the person who worships or adorns Rudraksha is very dear to Lord Shiva.

By wearing Rudraksha, a person gains positive energy and also Rudraksha is used within the spiritual realm. It is a boon by Lord Shiva that has been revealed to eradicate the physical grief of the world.

Types of Rudraksha

It is extremely difficult to ensure that there are several types of Rudraksha. As per the experts, up to 14 Mukhi Rudraksha are found but at the same time Shiva Maha Purana suggests that around upto 38 Mukhi Rudraksha exist. In general, only 21 Mukhi Rudraksha have been found. Rules to Follow While Wearing Rudraksha

Wearing Process

Most of us are not even familiar with the fact that when it should Rudraksha be worn. Let us keep you informed that you can adorn the Rudraksha on any of the Monday in the holy month of Shravan or any day in the entire month of Shravan. You can also wear Rudraksha on any Full Moon Day or MahaShivratri. 

At first, prior to wearing the Rudraksha must be kept soaked in a Mustard Oil for around 7 days. Thereafter, on the holy day one is required to soak it in the Panchamrut (milk, curd, tulsi, honey, and gangaajal) and then further bathe it with Gangaajal. Post applying tilak on the Rudraksha using the havan ash, the person shall chant the mantra- ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विदमहे महादेवाय धीमहि तन्नो रूद्र: प्रचोदयात or  oṃ tatpuruṣāya vidamahe mahādevāya dhīmahi tanno rūdra: pracodayāta and wear the bead around your neck. If the ash of havab isn’t available, then you can also opt for Kumkum.

Besides this, whenever you visit Shiv Mandir, without fail you should touch the Rudraksha with Shivling. Also, bathe the Rudraksha bead in Gangajal as well as Panchamrit on two consecutive Mondays in a month. Doing this will pull out the negativity as well as  problems from your life.
